Resin Frankenstein's Monster
I stumbled across this kit when I was looking for a Terrifier figure on the web. The company that made both is called ny3D creations (https://ny3dcreations.com). They have a very nice line of 3D resin kits that run the gamete of science fiction, horror and fantasy. Some of the figures can come in two different sizes and this Frankenstein's monster is the largest at 1/10 scale.
The ten piece kit was very crisp and clean which is typical for a 3D resin print. I had to sand down a couple small areas where support remnants could be seen on the shoulders but other than that, it was perfect.
As far as the base was concerned, I liked most of it though I substituted the provided dead branch with a actual lichen covered stick from my stash which looked much better in my view. I painted the rocks with a blotchy mixture of tan and black craft paint and greenish gray for lichen. I used my own crud material (scrapings from the bottom of my painthood) over the rest of the surface which I secured with a layer of Mod Podge. The cross and fence (which looks a little like a military emplacement to me) where done in various browns followed by a blackwash. I made clumps of dried weeds from an old paint brush and placed them here and there.
Movie poster art for this influential film
The Monster on a mission (it seems to me by his stance) clothes and hair were painted in a flat black which is a typical representation of the character in film. Using pastels, I smudged it's clothing with browns and grays here and there to kill the “off the rack” look. I muddied its boots with a flat medium brown and used a light tan followed buy a gray wash for his skin instead of the green tint used most frequently seen on the poster art. I highlighted the surgical scars with barn red which looks a lot like dried blood (to me atl east). Finally, its signature feature, the neck electrodes and head staples, were painted steel. 5/15'2024
